The work situated in the centre of this South Moravian trade fair and university city goes by a number of names. It is referred to as a multifunctional clock, a time machine, a timepiece, or even an astronomical clock. However, the essence of the work is best expressed by the term “clock machine”, which is also used on the information boards on Náměstí Svobody located nearby. In addition to measuring time each day, it recalls one of the important chapters of Brno's history by releasing a glass ball, it. Almost ten years after the unveiling of the clockwork machine by its creators Oldřich Rujbr and Petr Kameník, the sculptor O. Rujbr came up with the idea of documenting it. Only with the benefit of hindsight is it possible to acquaint the public with the initial ideas, to look behind the scenes of the creative process, and to unravel the delicate web of relationships within which the work was created. To this day, the clock mechanism continues to provoke a range of reactions and has become an unmistakable symbol of the city of Brno. The book details the competition conditions, the design of the clock mechanism and its historical background, all supplemented by extensive documentation (photographs, sketches). The photographs are by Zbyněk Hrbata. The authors and editors of the texts are Johanna Pauly and Josef Chybík.
