Seventeen Playgrounds

Author:  Denisa Kollarová and Anna van Lingen (eds.) Seventeen, 18, 19... Playgrounds stems from a research project by Denisa Kollarová and Anna van Lingen focusing on the work of Dutch architect Aldo van Eyck (1918-1999), the designer of hundreds of playgrounds in Amsterdam between the 1940s and 1970s. His designs, characterised by simple metal structures, sandpits and concrete elements, provided children with a space to develop their imagination and creativity through play. The first edition of the publication, mapping the projects that are still present in Amsterdam’s urban landscape, was published in 2015 by Lecturis. The second, expanded edition, which includes new contributions by Francis Strauvin, Paul Lappia, Tobias Krasenberg, Jonáš Verešpej, Tess Van Eyck and Harm Stevens, and was reviewed by Markus Miessen, is published in a co-edition of FFA BUT and Oreri-Iniziativa Editoriale, a risograph studio based in Cagliari, Sardinia.
