Product description

This book is an introduction to the physics of quasiparticles (elementary excitations) in solids. The author introduces readers to the basic concepts of solid-state theory using the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and provides a comprehensive overview of the theoretical framework that simplify the complex many-particles problems of solid-state theory. Today, well-established quasi-particle frameworks are essential for understanding and describing the extraordinarily diverse phenomena in condensed matter, and for the competent handling of new materials and structures. In the 1960s, Jan Celý worked at the Department of Theoretical Physics and Astrophysics, where he began, for the first time at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University, to teach a basic course in solid-state physics, which he subsequently followed up with lectures on solid-state theory. His extensive teaching activities also included long-running courses on the fundamentals of quantum mechanics and numerical methods. He published textbooks to accompany many of his lectures and tutorials. The second edition of the book, first published in 1977.
