Product description

"This art monograph on the Czech sculptor and visual artist Pavel Korbička was published to mark his solo exhibition Deflection at the Brno House of Arts. However, the conceptual framework of this publication spans a broader timeframe, with the aim of revealing and identifying the underlying principles that shaped the form of this exhibition. The first part of the book is devoted to the exhibition Deflection, featuring a study by the Prague-based art historian and theorist Ladislav Kesner. The second part of the book, entitled Three Perspectives (Three Views of Light), presents three fundamental features of the artist’s work, in which artificial light is a key expressive element. The first chapter, ‘The Focal Point of Space’, accompanied by a study by the Lisbon-based art historian, theorist and curator Mário Caeiro, discusses the hidden qualities of a specific ‘space’ as the fundamental starting point for the form of an artwork. The second chapter, entitled The Space of the Body, featuring a theoretical study by Brno-based art historian and curator Ilona Víchová, analyses the phenomenon of the “body” as a natural source of understanding space through one’s own movement. The final chapter, The Event of Space, opens with a theoretical text by art historian and curator Miroslava Hájek, based in Novara, Italy, and is followed by reflection by Prague philosopher Miroslav Petříček on the "relationship" between body and space, within which the visitor finds themselves and, through their physical activity, co-creates as an 'infinite' movement of optical phenomena. The monograph is not a retrospective study but a selection of important works that reveal the meaning and diversity of Pavel Korbička's practice.
