Product description

In 2007, in response to the long-standing lack of of a modern Czech textbook on organic chemistry, VUTIUM Publishing House and the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, published a Czech translation of the then-current 6th edition of John McMurry’s Organic Chemistry. Over the past few years, the entire print run, including the reprint, has been completely sold out, and so an updated Czech translation of the 8th edition of this textbook is now being published. The text of the textbook is divided into 31 chapters; their structure corresponds to the current approach to teaching organic chemistry and combines the traditional functional group approach with a mechanistic approach. The text progresses from simple compounds (alkanes, alkenes) to more complex ones. This approach will certainly be appreciated by students who are new to the subject and are not yet fully familiar with the intricacies of reaction mechanisms. On the other hand, however, emphasis is also placed on explaining the basic reaction mechanisms and their similarities. The book’s layout, clear chapter structure, colour printing of figures, and colour highlighting of changes occurring in the reactants during the reaction significantly facilitate orientation and understanding of the transformations taking place in organic molecules. The textbook was translated by a team of lecturers from the Department of Organic Chemistry at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague. The terminology and typography of the translation of all chapters follow on from the previous edition and correspond to the current usage of terminology and the Czech language in Czech specialist chemical literature."
