Product description

In many structures, assumptions of linearity lead to reasonable results. However, there are a number of types of structures for which a linear solution would result in unacceptably large errors. The aim of the authors of this university textbook is to provide students with a basic understanding of the subject of non-linear mechanics. The exposition is designed to help students master the relevant mathematical notation; it includes definitions of necessary terms, definitions of various measures of deformation and stress, a description of the basic formulations of non-linear mechanics, and methods for solving systems of non-linear equations. The reader should have a grasp of mechanics at bachelor’s degree level, including the principles of variation and the finite element method. In mathematics, knowledge of infinitesimal calculus and vector analysis is required. The necessary knowledge of tensor calculus is included in this textbook.
