Network Applications and Their Architecture

The disadvantage, and simultaneously the beauty, of computer networks is that they are constantly evolving. In his book Network Applications and Their Architecture, the author sought to address as many interesting and important aspects of basic network services as possible: the structure and function of TCP/IP, address translation and DNS services, the transmission of email and files, directory services, and means of transmitting voice over the internet. The concluding section of the text deals with the control and administration of the internet. Attention is given to techniques for ensuring high-quality transmission, data classification and filtering, and network management tools. The individual chapters are organised so that they can be read independently of one another. In addition to describing the architecture and principles of the services, the text is enriched with examples of practical applications.
