Mushroom

The environmental fable The Mushroom is a parable without a happy ending. The fable follows the story of Little Ant, who hides from the rain under a mushroom. The mushroom is small and the little ant can barely fit underneath it. Gradually, other animals arrive, seeking dry shelter. Despite the apparent impossibility, they all manage to squeeze under the mushroom, because the mushroom is growing thanks to the rain. But the rain does not let up. It pours on, and readers can choose between several alternative endings, each featuring different hardships the animals must face: How will they cope with hunger? With illness? With other animals seeking safe shelter? With the mushroom’s unstable structure? Flooding? The narrative style balances on the border between an illustrated story, a comic and a gamebook. This original book features an open-sewn binding and is printed using riso printing technology, including a colour endpaper with a satellite image of rain.
