Product description

This textbook is a continuation of the first volume of the same title. It presents further, somewhat more advanced university-level sections of linear algebra and mathematical analysis in a clear, accessible and engaging manner, with a focus on the practically-minded reader who, whilst not wishing to become a professional mathematician, is interested in gaining an understanding of the essence of fundamental concepts and theorems. The method involves teaching through examples, designed not only to motivate and aid understanding of the properties of mathematical objects, but also to practise and reveal potential pitfalls in their practical application. Concepts are correctly structured and defined; theorems are derived, proven, or at the very least explained. The reader will discover that mathematics need not be merely the dry science it is often regarded as. It can be very accessible, and sometimes even entertaining. Although the book is intended primarily for students of science and technical disciplines, it may also be useful to others interested in gaining a deeper insight into the subject matter. It may therefore also appeal to gifted secondary school pupils or their teachers. The book is divided into two volumes, which are not sold separately.
