Endangered Species

The book Endangered Species presents a collection of 37 prints by Jan Šrámek depicting significant buildings of Czechoslovak architecture from the period 1953-1989. The drawings capture, in addition to iconic buildings such as the Ještěd department store and Transgas, lesser-known structures from regional locations. The emphasis is placed primarily on buildings that are endangered or have already been demolished (Mazutka, Prior Brno, the cultural centre in Plzeň, etc.). The illustrations are accompanied by text by Ladislav Jackson. The aim of the publication is to draw attention to the issue of heritage protection of domestic post-war buildings. The author's book project Endangered Species follows on from the previous publication Special Circumstances for which the author won the Illustrator of the Year award in the Czech Grand Design 2017 competition. The book is published by FFA BUT and PageFive.
