Design for Manufacturability

During this period of temporary recession in industry and engineering, which has resulted, amongst other things, in a lack of funds for renewing machinery through the purchase of new machines, but also for other economic and environmental reasons, the modernisation and innovation of machinery, i.e. its ‘retrofitting’, is increasingly coming to the fore. In connection with the introduction of EU product certification, current efforts towards the effective modernisation and refurbishment of machinery in our industry have proven to be of great significance and benefit to society as a whole, and a need has thus arisen to inform the wider technical community about them. The areas described and the possible methods of machine modernisation applicable to their retrofitting, together with the correct technological design of their assemblies and components, should serve not only as study material for students of the Production Machines, Systems and Robots course, but also in practice as a guide for designers, engineers, repairers and entrepreneurs in this field.
