In 1899, the Czech Technical University was founded in Brno as the first Czech university in Moravia. It built upon the high professional standards established by the Czech-German Technical Institute founded in 1849, at which many prominent scientists worked, including the renowned Viktor Kaplan. The Czech Technical University has undergone incredible development; it has been on the brink of closure several times, but has always managed to build on its previous foundations and maintain its continuity. Just as in its early days, the Brno University of Technology remains an important centre of education and science today and influences higher education and scientific policy. Thanks to this book, we have the opportunity to recall both the glorious and painful moments in the history of the Brno University of Technology, from its inception to the present day. The book was published to mark the 110th anniversary of the founding of the Brno University of Technology.
